A custom or off-the-shelf tune is the single biggest power-per-dollar upgrade on any EcoBoost. Add intake and exhaust breathing after the tune so the tune can account for them, not before.
Direct injection means no fuel washes the back of the intake valves, so carbon builds up over time. An oil catch can / air-oil separator is cheap insurance that pays off at 60k–100k miles.
More boost stresses the coils and plugs. Tighter plug gaps and fresh coils cure the stumble-under-load that many owners mistake for a bigger problem.
